Geri Emmett, one of Duffy’s Sports Grill’s principal owners, is leaving her position as marketing vice president for Trish McEvoy and will transition to a full-time leadership role as chairwoman of the Duffy’s Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm.

Emmett launched the charity last year in honor of her husband Paul Emmett, the Florida restaurant chain’s late owner and founder who died in February 2015.

“It has been absolutely exhilarating to have been part of the developing years of Trish McEvoy for 30 years — from the retail distribution to the development of so many award-winning, iconic products,” Emmett said in a statement. “I look forward to dedicating my full energies to expanding the reach and impact of the Duffy’s Foundation as we continue to grow our family business.”

Duffy’s Sports Grill has 33 locations, and will open a new location in Sarasota on March 10, which coincides with Paul Emmet’s birthday.

In 2016, the foundation surpassed its initial goals with over $200,000 contributed to community charities throughout the state. Plans are underway to develop golf and cycling events, as well as a 5K race, which to build upon the initiatives of the foundation’s first year.
