Duffy’s Sports Grill has launched a charity in honor of the restaurant chain’s late owner and founder, Paul Emmett.
Proceeds from the first fundraiser are set to benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to fund research. Emmett passed away Feb. 10, 2015 in Palm Beach after battling cancer. He was 62.
Duffy’s Foundation plans to help raise money for groups and individuals who benefit communities where Duffy’s owns restaurants. The foundation was set up in tribute to Emmett, who often spearheaded charitable drives in his restaurant.
“It is essential that we stay true to the principles my husband believed in, including a total commitment to providing community enhancement,” said Geri Emmett, foundation chair and late wife of the Duffy’s founder.
Lake Worth-based Duffy’s Sports Grill is now under the helm of Emmett’s son, Jason Emmett. The family-owned-and-operated chain has 31 restaurants throughout Florida serving burgers, wings and salads.
“Supporting the communities where we operate was always very important to my father,” said Jason Emmett, Duffy’s Sports Grill president. “By establishing the Duffy’s Foundation, we will be able to ensure his vision for community involvement will remain consistent as the company continues to grow.”
Duffy’s inaugural fundraiser runs from Feb. 10 to March 10, Emmett’s birthday. Duffy’s customers who make donations to the foundation will receive a $10 reward on their MVP loyalty card.
Requests from children’s sports teams and other groups seeking donations will be forwarded by restaurant managers to the foundation, Duffy’s said. Fundraisers will only be held for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Special Olympics, and the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida.
